2.5 Mrityu Bhag (MB) Degrees

2.5.1 The word “Mrityu” means death, but planets in Mrityu Bhag (MB) degrees do not cause death, unless indications of death are already present in the dasha-scheme itself. Before assessing effectiveness of a planet in MB, it is essential to stress that degrees of planets & lagna be calculated accurately using Chitra Paksh Ayanamsha. If other malefic factors are also there, the period/ sub-period of a planet in MB can be the beginning of a major mishap/ tragedy. However the general observations are:

i) If a benefic unaspected by a malefic is in MB, it may indicate mild troubles.

ii) If a planet in MB has a malefic association as well, it may prove a major tragedy.

iii) If unafflicted Jupiter associates with the planet in MB, chances of surviving critical period are bright.

2.5.3 Timing of Event: The adverse effects of a planet in MB cannot be and is not lifelong, but is periodical only. Their effects are generally felt only during period/ sub-periods and/ or the transit of the planet in MB or the lord of sign in which the planet is placed. The intensity of the trouble caused will depend on the aspect / association the planet in MB has. The general principles are:

i) It may affect the significations of the planet concerned e.g. Sun (father/ self), Moon (mother/ mind), Mars (brother/ land), Jupiter (children/ money), Venus (wife) etc.

ii) Affects the ownership of the house of planet concerned.

iii) Passes on its influence to the lord of the house in which it is placed.

2.5.4 Example Chart No. 1: Amitabh Bachhan, the Cine Star

The native has Sun in Mrityu Bhag in 8th house with Mars, Mercury & Venus (all combust). In Oct 1981, during Saturn-Sun dasha, Saturn was having Sade-sati period and was transiting in 8th house very close to Sun. He was almost fatally injured. However the saving grace was that 11th lord Jupiter, which was exalted in birth chart, was also transiting 8th house equally close to Sun on the other side of the Sun and 8th lord Mercury was transiting 9th house.
