Another opinion: To under stand the effects of Houses

11. Let us understand the good and other effects which are the chief source of adornment to the science of astrology just as they arise in the several houses appertaining to human being owing to the preponderating influence of planets. Among the Ascendant and other houses, which are occupied or aspected by Venus, Mercury, Jupiter or the House lord i.e. the lord of the house concerned, but un-aspected by or un-associated with the rest, produce good results.

When the Ascendant and some of the other houses have benefic planets appearing in them or are occupied or aspected by their own lords, prosperity of the said houses may be declared to exist provided they are un-aspected or unoccupied by malefic planets.

A planet in its depression or inimical sign destroys the house that it owns. But in its Mooltrikona, exaltation or friendly sign the said house gets beneficial results.

When a house has its lord in the 6th, the 8th or the 12th, or is occupied by the lord of one of these three houses, it suffers annihilation, say those that know the properties of a house. If such a house is aspected by a benefic planet, the effect will be different and positive.

If the lord of a house occupying a Angle or Trine position from the Ascendant and possess abundant strength being either aspected by benefic planets or in its exaltation and other Vargas, that house, say the wise, is in a flourishing condition.

12. Astrologers pronounce the strength of a house, such as the Ascendant, to be abundant and thoroughly beneficent when a Trine, the 4th, the 10th place from the respective house is occupied by an auspicious planet or the lord of house and is unoccupied or unaspected by malefic planets. A house suffers decay when the positions referred to above are differently occupied and aspected. The effect of a house will be mixed when the positions noted above are occupied or aspected by benefic and malefic planets promiscuously.

13. The Ascendant & other houses are examined, in succession, whichever house has its lord occupying, the 8th place (from it) or obscured by the solar rays or in depression or in an inimical house, while no benefic planets aspect or are associated with it, the astrologers declare the total destruction of such a house. The lord of the house concerned even in the event of being associated with such planets is incapable of producing any good effect.

14. Planets occupying a house cannot benefit it when its lord is in a (Evil houses 6th, 8th or 12th place from it) or an inimical house or in a state of eclipse or combust.

A planet may even be badly placed or occupy a (Navamsa) owned by a malefic, inimical or its own depression sign; it will nevertheless prove beneficial when the Navamsa or sign occupied by it is its own, or that of its exaltation sign or of a friendly planet, equal to no less than when benefic planets aspect it.

15. When the planet owning the sign occupied by the lord of a house is badly placed, the house becomes weak. But when the planet referred to above is in its exaltation, in a friendly sign or in its own house, the astrologer may pronounce the house to be flourishing.

16. When the lord of a house, the friends of the house lord and the lord of the exaltation sign of the House-lord occupy the 11th, the 2nd and the 3rd places with respect to the house, these planets advance the strength of the house, provided they be not eclipsed or in an unfriendly sign or in depression.

17. A planet produces the full effect of the house in which it is placed when its distance from the bhava-sandhi is equal to that of the bhavamsa (semihouse). When the planet has a less or greater distance from a bhava-sandhi than a bhavamsa, its effect must be ascertained by a rule-of-three process according to Sripatipaddhati.

18. Trik Houses: The Traits of a house suffer, if its lord is located in the 6th, 8th or the 12th house. Similarly the lord of the 6th, 8th or the 12th house harms the prospects of the house in which it is located.

If however, it is well aspected it gives good results.

19. A house that contains its lord, or from whom there are in 5th, 9th, 2nd, 4th, 7th or 10th benefic planets and is not influenced by malefic planets get strengthened.

If reverse is the case the houses become destroyed.

If the yoga is mixed there are mixed results.

This rule is applicable to all houses including the Ascendant.

20. A house gets its traits destroyed if its lord is located in the 8th house, also if it is eclipsed by the Sun or is in its debilitation sign, or in an inimical sign or is neither associated with nor aspected by benefic.

In cases where a house contains a planet but that planet is weak in the mannere stated above, even then the traits of the house get lost.

This rule is applicable to all houses including the Ascendant.

21. The lord of the Ascendant, even if he is an inauspicious planet, will promote the growth of the House occupied by him.

Should be also happen to be owner of any of the evil house like the 6th, 8th or the 12th, the effect of his being the lord of the Ascendant will be predominate and not that of being the owner of the other bad house.

E.g., Mars owning the Aries/Scorpio Ascendant and occupying Leo or Pisces respectively identical with the 5th house and be aspected by an auspicious planet, that the native will be blessed with sons rather soon after marriage.

22. If a planet owns two houses and one of them which happens to be the Moolatrikona shall have predominate effects in full while the effects of his own house will be just half.

The effects of both the house will be felt in the Dasa of that planet, the first half of the Dasa period being monopolized by the effects of the House that comes first in order.

The other opinion is that a planet occupying an odd sign will have the effects of that house felt first, while those that occupy an even sign will have its effects in the second half of the Dasa.

23. The annihilation of the various houses from the Ascendant, onwards should be predicted during the Dasa periods of planets which are bitter enemy to the Lord of the particular House or which occupy a house where there are no benefic dots in their Ashtakavarga.

24. A planet may occupy his exaltation sign or friendly house or possesses any of the six kinds of strength; but when in a House Sandhi/junction, he becomes powerless. This should always be borne in mind before predicting the effects of the Dasas and Bhuktis of planets.

25. In the case of various house when the planets occupy the exact degrees, etc, signified by any particular House i.e. equivalent to midpoint of a house, full effects of that House are produced.

When a planet is in House sandhi/junction no effects are produced.

But when they are posited in the intermediate places, the proportionate effects may be calculated by a rule of three processes.
