The Nature in General:

This sign is called the paradox of the twelve. One will found a very few harmonious people found in it, which as far as known have not given any especial attention to mental or spiritual development but, generally the genius of the Cancer sign will be exceedingly difficult to explain. The character of Cancerian natives is the least clear cut of all those associated with the signs of the zodiac. It will range from the timid, dull, shy and withdrawn to the most brilliant and famous. Cancerian natives will be found through out the whole sphere of human activities. It will be a fundamentally conservative and home-loving nature, appreciating the nest like quality of a secure base to which the male can retire when he will need a respite from the stresses of life, and in which the Cancerian woman can exercise her strong maternal instincts. The Cancerian women will tend to like and to have a large family. For the home of the Cancerian natives `Nest like’ word will be an appropriate adjective due to their inhabitants tend to favour the dark; and it will be a mysterious but comfortable type of house which will have something of the air of a den about it, a place which will belong to the family rather than existing as a showcase to impress visitors.

Natives born under this sign will have a persistent will, a clutch of determination, intuition and purpose. They will be gifted  in many directions far above the average, if educated thoroughly. They will have a very superior intelligence and an aptitude for learning new things and working out new principles. They will be generous and full of sympathy for the public good, but will demand a full independence to develop the same. They will often capricious, and frequently change their occupation. It is a sign of the higher attributes of feelings and sympathy. On one side, the natives will have the perseverance and drive to do what  needs to be done they will be self sufficient and will not need to depend on other people for the material and physical things in life. On the other hand, they will depend on people for emotional support and encouragement. A Cancerian who is not fully self-actualized will need the constant support of others and will not be very independent but the Cancerian who are `evolved’ and has properly harnessed their emotional issues will  be wildly successful as an independent human being. They will crave attention and comfort from other people and they will be the happiest when they will have a small, close knit group of friends or family.

It does not mean that the Cancerian natives will be unsociable, just that for them there will be a time to socialize and a time to be solitary, and this will be the part of the apparent contradiction in their nature. Outwardly they may appear to be formidable thick skinned, unemotional, uncompromising, obstinately tenacious, purposeful, energetic, shrewd, intuitive and wise, sometimes with a philosophical profundity of thought verging on inspiration. However, their intimates sensitivity to other people, especially towards those whom they will love. They will also be able to identify with the situations of others because of the keenness of their imaginations. They will be often over imaginative and prone to fantasy, sometimes trying to shape their lives to fit some romantic ideal. They will appreciate arts and literature; feeling particularly will excite them. They may themselves possess talent for mimicry can sometimes give them success on the stage, though their tendency to be emotional may make them overacting person. As they will give the impression of being down to earth, they will be often fascinated by the occult and will be more open to psychic influence than the average. If they can reconcile the personal conflict of their urges to be outgoing with the reserve that causes them to withdraw into themselves, then at best they can inspire a generation, especially the youthful part of it, by their idealism. A job in which they can express this, and in which they can do well, would be as a leader in a youth organization.

The mind of the Cancer person will be very mechanical. In other words these natives will have a retentive memory, particularly for emotionally laden events which they can recall in detail for years afterwards. They will be tactful to diplomacy in some matters, and show their hands with painful clearness in others. Their powers of understanding will be very quick and keen; and they will have excellent memories. They will be strongly governed by childhood memories and since they will live intensely in the past in memory and in the future in imagination, a chance of meeting with someone for whom they had an unrequited love, even if they thought they had conquered the feeling, will easily rouse the emotion all over again. Usually the men will be successful in manufacturing business and active trade of all kinds, the women will  be intellectual and often will be very logical writers and speakers, remarkably progressive in their ideas, and frequently found among the prime movers in great humane enterprises. Many of them are indefatigable scholars and some of our finest public speakers. Both the men and women will be very fond of money. The male will be apt to become miserly while the female will be covetous and ambitious to get and hoard. These natives will be such people who will be afraid and ashamed of poverty and who will count their silver, and hide their gems in stockings, and who are in constant expectation of burglars.
