Houses 4 and 9 are to be pursued for education, and houses 2, 6 and 10 for profession.

IV. Analysis

The gentleman was interested to know why Jupiter in exaltation in Cancer (Kataka) and conjoined with Mercury could not make him a lawyer, although it assisted him to become a law graduate.

According to Krishnamurti Padhati, undue importance is not attached to a planet’s exaltation or debilitation or its position in the sign of its enemy and many other confusing theories. No doubt, an exalted planet acquired strength to offer what it rules by nature, and a debilitated planet is weak in that respect. But when we descend from abstractions to actual delineated of a chart, we need to blend all the indications harmoniously and in such a treatment the theories found in traditional texts like enemy’s house, malefic planet by nature, etc. have no exaggerated importance. Every horoscope is peculiar to the date, time and place, and what is food to one is poison to the other Jupiter is not uniformly good to all, nor is Saturn bad either to every one. If Venus is in exaltation, it is also then in enemy’s house. The practical approach prescribed in Krishnamurti Padhati is simple, clear and direct, and that is that whatever planet may be by nature good, bad or indifferent what actually it will offer depend on its lordship of houses in the chart, it occupation by house and, more than all, its situation by constellation and sub. The sign in which it is contained measures the strength of the planet whether it is congenial to express its natural qualities to the full or not.

A planet is the source through which it influences the matter or matters denoted by the houses occupied by it or the matter or matters denoted by the house occupied the lord of the constellation in which it is deposited. If there is no planet in a house and there are none in the constellations any one of the three ruled by the lord of a house, then the house lord himself becomes a significator to affect the matters influenced by that house and he will do so in addition to his role as the significator of the house occupied by him and the house ruled by the lord of the constellation in which he was stationed.

Coming back to the subject matter of our discussion, we find that the 4th house which governs normal high school education is occupied by Rahu who, by virtue of his standing alone in the sign Kumbha ruled by Saturn, becomes a powerful agent of Saturn who not only rules the sign on the cusp of the 4h house but also the sub thereof. Saturn himself is in 3, a house of negation to the 4th house affairs, and Rahu brings to bear Saturn’s influence in this respect. As only a few month of Ketu Dasa was left as balance at birth, the native had run the Dasa of Venus (Sukra) for 20 years in life, and Sukra was posited in the constellation of Rahu. The native should have faced all sorts of impediments and difficulties then and this was corroborated.
